AW11 MR2 Production Line

I owned one, twice.  I sold it, missed it terribly, bought it back after a chance Craigslist encounter, and then quickly sold it again.  It had had the spirit beaten out of it by the guy I sold it to and it broke my heart to see it in that shape, so she had to go.

That car had so much personality you'd swear it was French.  I couldn't help but think of it as a living being.  It was like a puppy - all happy, chaotic, mischievous energy.

The thought that this could be my car being born nearly brings a tear to my eye.

  1. You need to get behind the wheel of a Fiat X1/9. If you thought the MR2 had personality - you'd be astonished at the X1/9.

    1. I'd love to one day. I had a 124 Spyder for a time, loved that Lampredi twincam. I don't think the Fiat SOHC unit in the X1/9 would hold a candle to the Cosworth BDA clone 4AGE in the AW11, though.

  2. The X1/9 was before Alan's time. I had a brand new 1980 model and owned it for 8 months...great machine but it was unfortunately in the shop 5 of those 8 months. I would pick the Bertone car over the Toyota any day...owning a Ducati...I have accepted that character and random fires are worth the headache of ownership.

    1. If breakdowns are a mark of character, the MR2 was the most characterful Japanese car I ever owned.

      I didn't know you owned an X1/9!
